The signs on this shack were painted by a retired sign painter who had moved to Tulaby Lake in his retirement. He was a pretty old man when I knew him as a child. I only knew him as Mr.Jackson and I believe he was from some city in Iowa. He built a log home on the lake and a small go cart racing track for his mentally challenged cousin who came to live him after his previous caretaker had died.
Curt Tilleraas was born in Mahnomen, Minnesota, a small town on the White Earth Indian Reservation in West Central Minnesota. For a few years in the mid-fifties his family moved to California and lived in Downey, Long Beach, Compton, Lynwood and Hollydale. As an adult he has lived in Fargo, North Dakota, Durango, Colorado, Vence, France, Avignon, France, Pelican Rapids, Barnesville, Minneapolis and St Paul, Minnesota. In his mid-fifties, Curt discovered a passion for photography. At first he used his photographs in his work as a country pastor. He found that his elderly parishioners who were home bound, in hospital or living in nursing homes responded well to photographs of their home farms, neighborhoods, country scenes, lakes, churches...
